Creep 2 Review (2017) with Spoiler Ending

Creep 2 is sequel to Creep.  If you are a fan of Creep, you’ll definitely love Creep 2.

The Story

Creep 2 picks up where Creep left off. Some time has passed after the first film.  We are introduced to new victim named Sara who is a struggling Youtuber. After finding an ad online for “video work”, she thinks she may have found the opportunity to make her Youtube channel go viral. However, as the day goes on, she discovers she may have dug herself into a hole she can’t escape.

The Review (Spoiler Free)

Creep 2 pretty much is continuation of first Creep. If you haven’t seen Creepcheck out our review.

The success of first Creep lies on its originality. The creator, Patrick Brice and Mark Duplass, took the found footage horror film to a new direction.  In Creep 2, we get to know the Mark Duplass’ character even more.  The movie focuses more on serial killer’s thought process and his backstory.  As we get to know the character even more, we find out he is even crazier and creepier.

The first Creep really worked because of excellent performance by Mark Duplass.  In Creep 2, he steps up his performance to next level. In Creep 2, he literally let himself go. You’ll see what I am talking about when you watch the movie.

I recommend watching first movie before you watch Creep 2. There are many references to first Creep film. In fact, I recommend watching Creep and Creep 2 back to back and make it into one long movie.

The new character, Sara played by Desiree Akhavan, brought new twist to the movie.  She is fearless Youtuber who is willing to do anything get her viral videos for her struggling channel.  Throughout the movie, you’ll feel the tension building as Sara try to get closer to Mark Duplass character to get the shot of life time.

There aren’t any jump scares in the movies. Just like the first film, there are few comical fake jump scares to keep you on your toes. The rest of the movie is based on intense relationship between two characters.

Unfortunately, the ending doesn’t really stand out and it is bit predictable, but it is still satisfying.

Spoiler Ending (Spoiler Alert!)

First thing you’ll noticed about Creep 2 is that Mark Duplass’ character changed his name from Josef to Aaron which was his previous victim’s name from original Creep.  Throughout the movie, there are many references to Aaron from the first movie which indicates that Aaron made a big impact in his life. He is still thinking about him.

From this point on, I’ll be referring Mark Duplass’ character as Aaron.

In Creep 2, Aaron appears to be going through midlife crisis.  He turned 40 and he thinks he lost his mojo.  So he decided to make a movie about him being a serial killer. When the movie is done, he is going to kill himself.  At least this is what he told Sara.

Throughout the movie, Aaron convinced Sara to tell him the truth because he only tells the truth to her.  But of course, we find out later that that everything that Aaron told Sara are lies. He is pathological liar.  Even his name is a lie.  We actually doesn’t even know his real name. Sara is just one of many Aaron’s victims.

In this movie, we get to hear how Aaron became a serial killer.  We are still not sure if he is telling the truth or not, but the story is very disturbing and intriguing.  For the big climax of the movie, he decided to reenact his childhood nightmare with Sara.

Aaron’s plan was to kill Sara all along.  In order to pull that off, he decided to stab himself in a way that he doesn’t injure himself too seriously.  He is crazy like that.  At the end, he was able to stab Sara and brought her down to the open grave. But Sara survived and able to strike back. It appeared that she was able to kill Aaron.  Bottom line, Aaron failed to kill her.  Maybe he did lost his mojo.

In the last scene, we see Sara in the train back at home.  It looks like some time has passed. But it appears that someone is following her and filming her from the distance.  We are assuming that Aaron somehow survived and now he is stalking her.  Who knows what he is going to do with her next. I am not sure if there is going to be Creep 3, but sets up nicely for Creep 3.

By the way, be aware. One of the more shocking scene of the movie is Mark Duplass’ full frontal.  Yes, he bares it all.  That is the biggest surprise of the movie.

  1. Both Creep and Creep 2 were impossible to look away from. They are such (for lack of a better word) creepy movies. I can’t wait for Creep 3!

    1. Speaking of impossible to look away, you heard of Netflix TV show called Black Mirror? That show is so cool and interesting, it’s impossible to look away. Its not horror but more of Twilightzone type of show with sci-fi elements to it.

  2. I absolutely loved both films. After i was recommended the first film from an article titled “hidden gems on netflix” i qued it and finally watched it tonite. I was blown away by how awesome the first one was and quickly went online to see if there was a sequel. To my surprise i discovered the second one was released last year and also available on netflix so i watched it immediately. The two films are respectively very different from one another, but are both great in their own ways. This time around, creep 2 played with elements presented in the first film cleverly and Mark Duplass does a sensational job playing the main antagonist with an even darker tone. I am excited for the third installment, as i read online that “creep” was created to be a trilogy from the get go. The ambiguous ending to the second film is the perfect set up for the next installment, leaving us with a bunch of questions. I hope these films spark a huge cult following which will lead to great anticipation for what comes next. I hope the cult following is large enough to generate a wide theatrical release to give this franchise the recognition it deserves via box office ticket sales which i believe with the minimal budget the first films took would make the creep finale a bonafied hit! In conclusion “creep 2” in my opinion doesnt surpass the quality of the first film like most reviewers claim as i think both films stand on their own as equally fantastic because they can stand on their own as perfect compliments to each other and the ultimate plot these films interpret which is how trust and judgement of character can lead to an impending doom.
