Flatliners Review (2017)

Flatliners is remake of movie from 1990 with same name, but it didn’t bring anything new to the great concept from the original film.

The Story

Medical students begin to explore the realm of near death experience to study human mind. Each has their heart stopped and is revived to measure their brain actives. But once they come back from death, they started to experience strange things happening to their lives.

The Review (Spoiler Free)

I am not sure why they have to remake this movie since the original movie is very solid.  A movie based on concept of near death experience and life after death experiment is very original concept for horror film.  But I was open minded this see if new Flatliner could bring some new spin to this original concept.

The movie wasn’t terrible, but it didn’t bring anything new to this concept.  The movie is very predictable and the ending wasn’t very impressive.

There was some impressive horror suspense in the beginning, but the most disappointing part of the movie is that the movie isn’t dark enough. The horror element is just a cover up.  At the end, the movie is really a drama about friendship.

The acting was very good.  It was good to see Kiefer Sutherland in the movie who was also in the original Flatliners.  But he didn’t have big role in the movie.  Kiersey Clemons and Nina Dobrev are very beautiful and very talented.   Also it was nice to Ellen Page in lead role again.  I just felt that these casts could have gotten better scripts, and better movie.

Overall, the movie benefits because of strong casts and very original concept from the original movie.  My recommendation is to watch the original Flatliners.  It is better horror film.
