Get Out Review (2017)

Get Out is horror film by comedian Jordan Peele. It is little bit stretch to call this a horror film.  It is more of suspense thriller with bit of sci-fi twist.

The Story

The story is about an interracial couple Chris and Rose.  They been dating for few months now and it was time for Chris to meet Rose’s parent.  He was bit uneasy about meeting Rose’s parents since he learned that he was first black boyfriend she has been dating. Once he was at her parent’s house, he started to notice something strange going on her parent’s house.

The Review (Spoiler Free)

I really enjoyed this movie.  You’ll enjoy the movie when you see the movie without knowing anything about the movie.

Even though movie is not comedy, it has very subtle comical elements throughout the movie.  It does make sense knowing that Jordan Peele is known for satire comedy.  Bascailly Jordan created subtle satire horror film. That is some thing very different about the movie.

The movie does have bit of Hitchcock feel to the movie. As the movie progress, it is setting up for the final surprise reveal at the end.  But you have sense of what is happening early in the movie.  It is bit predictable. The final surprise at the end isn’t mind blowing either.  Actually, it maybe bit over kill.  But this movie isn’t all about the final surprise.

Best part of the movie is all the little details in the movie.  You have to watch carefully and pay attention to all the dialogs.  This is one of those movie where you have to watch few times to get all the details.  If you watch carefully, you see so many little clues and humors throughout the movie.

Acting and Directing

Acting is very good, specially the lead character Chris played by Daniel Kaluuya.  But it’s not just Daniel Kaluuya, the whole casts is excellent. The rest of the main casts include Allison Williams, Catherine Keener, Bradley Whitford, Caleb Landry Jones, Marcus Henderson, Betty Gabriel, LilRel Howery, and Stephen Root.

The movie is written and directed by comedian Jodran Peele.  This is his directorial debut.  I was surprise to see comedian directing horror film.  But I like how he brought the dark and subtle humor to the horror movie.

In the Nutshell

Get Out is not perfect but it is worth watching. I give 4 out of 5 stars.
