Lights Out Review (2016)

Finally get to see Lights Out. I was excited about movie because I really loved the short film.  Those who don’t know, this movie is based on 2 minuet short Youtube film by David Sandberg.

The Review (Spoiler Free)

This is fun movie to watch. Obviously original 2 minuets short film don’t really have a story, so they have to come up with interesting story for the full featured film. The story works for me but not so original. The movie is creepy and has few good jump scares.

Only thing I didn’t like the movie as the ending. It was very predictable. When the mom finally confronts the ghost and saying to the ghost, “you need me”, you know what is going to happen next.

I like the fact that the characters aren’t so dumb unlike some of the other horror movies. When they are in sticky situation, they make the best choices. For example, towards the end of the movie, when Alexander DiPersia character encounter with the ghost, he ran out to get cops, instead of run towards the ghost to get himself killed.

In the opening scene, we get to see Lotta Losten who also was the lead actress on Lights Out short film. She sets up the film with introducing to the ghost.

Acting and Directing

David Sanberg directed the movie and I believe this is his first full featured film.  But he directed many short films and won many awards. So i guess it’s a big break for him.

The casts are pretty solid specially the lead actors, Maria Bello, and Alexander DiPersia.  Teresa Palmer is very beautiful woman. Rest of the casts include  Gabriel Bateman, Billy Burke, Alicia Vela-Bailey, Andi Osho, Rolando Boyce, Maria Russell, Elizabeth Pan, Lotta Losten, Amiah Miller, Ava Cantrell, and Emily Alyn Lind.
