Static Review (2012)

Static is hidden gem that most horror fans have missed.  It has mind blowing surprise ending.

The Story

The Wades is married couple who is struggling with lost of their 3 year old son.  One night, a mysterious visitor turns up at their house claiming that “They” are after her.  Soon the mysterious stalkers with a mask break into the home and terrorizing the couple.  The couple soon find themselves struggling to survive.

The Review (Spoiler Free)

Static starts out as typical home invasion horror staring Milo Ventimiglia, Sarah Shahi, and Sara Paxton who plays a strange woman who knocking on their door in the middle of the night.

The movie starts off bit slow.  The movie takes its time to develop its characters and their back stories in the beginning.  The movie starts to get interesting with we are introduced to Rachel character played by Sara Paxton.  After that, we basically see the couple fleeing from largely invisible intruders wearing strange gas masks and hoodies. The couple run from one room of their house to the other, hear some noises, argue a bit, then go to the next room and do the same.  This goes on for little while.

But as you sit through the movie, you can sense that there is big mystery revealing at the end of the movie, but you just can’t figure it out.  It’s relatively easy in one sense to figure out a large part of what ‘has’ happened because they usually tip it off through out the movie. But this movie does good job holding off any hint of revealing some of the mysteries.

At the end, it is worth sit through the movie because of the surprise ending.

Anyway, for the directorial debut and the theme of the film, I think they did a decent job with the story considering it’s low budget movie. It you want to be bit more critical, they could have come up with a tad more substance or complexity to draw us in a little more.  But over all, it is good story.

All and all, it is a solid, well made horror film. Depending on your personal taste concerning these types of movies.  If you appreciate imaginative themes with surprise ending, then you should find it fairly entertaining.  But, if you are more of a hard core ‘Realist’ and do not suspend disbelief easily, this may not be the kind of film for you.

In the Nutshell

Static started out as a typical home invasion horror, but it’s far from it.  So sit back and watch the movie until the end.  I give 5 out of 5 stars.
