Stephanie (2017) Review

Stephanie is predictable but it is very entertaining sci-fi horror film.

The Story

After a mysterious global crisis, a young girl is left alone to hide from a malevolent power that stalks her home. Her parents eventually return and the struggle begins to save their daughter.

The Review (Spoiler Free)

Opening few minuets are great.  We see young Stephanie home alone and there appears to be a mysterious monster lurking outside.  But obviously there is big twist revealed later in the movie.

Initially, the movie doesn’t really explains what is going on. There appears to be global disaster, plus there is a mysterious monster that is lurking outside the house.  We are not sure what happened to her parents.  We can only guess.  This movie is excellent at involving the viewer’s imagination.

Stephanie can easily categorized as sci-fi horror.  There are some pretty good scares.  But there aren’t too many special effects and gore.  Many of the elements are left for viewer’s imagination.  The twist in the story is predictable but well excuted. The pace of movie is good, and the overall plot is well thought out.

Overall, acting from all the casts are very good.  Young Stephanie, played by Shree Crooks really shines.  It was nice to see Anna Torv again, too.  She is known from TV show called Fringe.

The movie ends in cliff hanger.  It is as if they are setting up for sequel.  The mystery of the monsters are not fully resolved and many of the question are not answered.  But that didn’t bother me at all. I just hope that they make the sequel and explain more about the monster.

In the Nutshell

Stephanie is predictable but it is very entertaining sci-fi horror film. If you have Netflix, do check it out.  [ 4 out of 5 stars.]
