The Void can be categorized as Lovecraftian Horror or Cosmic horror. Simple put, The Void can be descried as Hellraiser meets The Thing.
The Story
The story is about a police officer Carter played by Aaron Poole who brought in a mysterious injured man into local hospital with a barebones night staff.
Soon they noticed cult-like figures surround the building and the patients and staff inside start to turn into ravenously monster. Officer Carter and the people in the hospitals are trying to make sense of what is going on and trying to survive the night. But they soon discovered something very evil is behind all the this.
The Review (Spoiler Free)
For those who are not sure of what Lovecraftian horror is, Lovecraftian horror is a subgenre of horror fiction that emphasizes the cosmic horror of the unknown and in some cases, unknowable. It is named after American author H. P. Lovecraft who is largely credited as the first author to pioneer the genre.
Personally I am not a big fan of cosmic horror because of the fact that there are lots of unknown that they don’t explain at all. Most of the cosmic horror involves other dimension and space and time. The Void is the same way. But the movie isn’t terrible.
The pace of movie is very good. The action and suspense starts right away.
The Void is considered low-budget movie, but it has very impressive monsters and special effects. It so reminds me of The Thing.
At the end, the plot thickens but the movie doesn’t really explains much which forces us to come up with our own theory of what is going on. Some may like this but personally, i’m not a fan of coming up with my own theory of the movie.
