Lake Mungo Review (2009)

Lake Mungo is part of After Dark series from 2010. It is well done horror mock-umentary. (fake documentary)

The Review (Spoiler Free)

The movie follows this family who found out their daughter has died. After the death, the family members started to see strange things are happening in their home. As they investigate, they sees that the daughter had dark secret she as hiding from the parents.

Basically Lake Mungo is a ghost story. Be aware that the movie is mock-umntary, so there is no jump scares and anything like that. It runs like a documentary.  Most of the movie is the interview with the family members. We do see some family’s home video and still photos and they are pretty creepy.

The movies does run bit slow specially in the beginning. But it is worth sitting through the beginning because it gets better.  I think the brilliance of Lake Mungo lies in its mid-movie twist. Up until that point, Lake Mungo seems like a pretty standard paranormal haunting film. But then everything changes, and everything gets much weirder and scarier.

By the way, Lake Mungo is actually creepy lake in Australia.

The movie is written and directed by Joel Anderson.  Joel Anderson is new director.  He doesn’t have much movies in his resume.

This low budget movie is worth watch if you are looking for something different.
