Ouija Origin of Evil Review (2016)

Ouija Origin of Evil is surprisingly entertaining movie. Very good story telling and acting. It is pretty creepy and good amount of jump scenes. Until at the end..

The Review (Spoiler Free)

This is prequel of Ouija (2014), but you don’t have to have see original Ouija to enjoy it.

The movie is set in 1967 Los Angeles. The story is about widowed mother Alice Zander (Elizabeth Reaser) and her two daughers.  She is scam fortunate teller and she is having difficulty financially. One day she stumble into ouija board and she started to use it to take the fortunetelling to next level.  Of course, there always bad things happen when you start using Ouija board.

Just like any other horror, the horror starts gradually after Oujia board enter the story.  The character development was pretty good and the build is great.  The movies does get really creepy and few good jump scares.

But  the movie flat lines at final 20 minuets of the movie and the ending. It turned into typical over the top Hollywood ending. But even with bit disappointing ending, it is worth watching.

Be sure to wait until the end of the credit. There is short scene after the credit which connects this movie to the previous Ouija movie. It is worth waiting for.

Acting and Directing

All the actors are great speciall young actors Annalise Basso, and Lulu Wilson. Rest of the casts include Henry Thomas, Parker Mack, Halle Charlton, Alexis G. Zall, Doug Jones, Kate Siegel, Sam Anderson, Chelsea Gonzalez, Lincoln Melcher, Nicholas Keenan, Michael Weaver, and Ele Keats.

The movie is directed and written by  Mike Flanagan who did other great horror flicks including Oculus, Hush, and
Absentia .  Some of them you should definitely check it out.  I did review Hush in previous post which I recommend.

In the Nutshell

I give 4 out of 5 stars (Not perfect but good enough to enjoy)
