The Review (Spoiler Free)
There were several Escape Room movies that came out in last few years. Actually there were two Escape Room movies that came out on 2017 with same titles. You can check the reviews here: Escape Room, Escape Room. Comparing with other Escape Room movies, this is far better movie with far higher budget.
Escape Room isn’t completely original movie. You easily tell the movie got most of its idea from Saw (2004), Final Destination (2000), and Cube (1997). But it is some what of original movie in a way, it took all these different movies and came up with its own entertaining story.
Escape Room is a perfectly enjoyable little thriller. But if you are looking for gore, bloody violence, and sickening death scenes, you’ll probably be disappointed. It is rated PG-13 at the box office. The movie is more attuned to focusing on the elaborate puzzles themselves, resulting in a film that intrigues rather than disturbs.
In term of pace of the movie, it does starts out bit slow. We get to know some of the characters in the beginning of the movie. But once all the characters are at the escape room, the movie picks up its pace and the fun begins.
What impressed me was each of unique escape rooms. Some of the puzzle rooms are visually stunning. The special effects are also very good. You can tell, the movie did have high budget for all the cool set designs and special effects.
Thankfully the characters aren’t just one dimensional characters either. The acting was pretty decent and each characters has it’s own interesting backstories and unique personality. They all reacts to the stress differently according to their own unique personality.
There is also twist in the story at that makes the movie very entertaining. Also the ending was very satisfying. It does have bit of “Hollywood ending” but I am not complaining. Also the movie left the room for sequel.
Overall, Escape Room is very fun film that is definitely worth checking out. [5 out of 5 stars]
