I don’t know why so many people don’t like M. Night. Maybe because of high expectation from first blockbuster hit “Sixth Senses”. As for me, I am a big fan of M. Night. I know not every movie is good but I enjoy most of his movies. And this movie, I really love!
The Review (Spoiler Free)
The Visit is low budget found-footage style horror film. Many thinks that the movie starts out too slow, but I don’t agree. I think it moved with perfect pace. Pay attention to all the stories and problems those two children are facing, because the movie reference back to them later.
The story is about these two kids who decided to spend the weekend with their grandparents who they never met before. Older girl is aspiring film maker and she decided to film the whole experience. We are watching the movie from her camera.
This movie has very satisfying big twist ending that M. Night is famous for. The last 30 minuets of the movie are most intense and frightening, and it really satisfying. Also movie has more of deeper inner struggle of these kids from their fears. Go see it and let me know what you think.
Spoiler Ending (Spoiler Warning!!)
The big surprise at the end of the movie is that the grand-parents the two kids stayed over the weekend wasn’t their real grand-parents. They are two dangerous mentally ill patient that escaped from the mental institute. They murdered the real grand-parents and pretending to be their grand-parents. To make things worse, we find out early on that the grandma has medical condition where she go crazy and weird at night time. I think this is most scary part of the movie. She is very unpredictable and you don’t know what she is going to do every night.
Of course, when the kids find out, all hell break loose. They try their best to pretend every thing is normal and trying to escape from them. Also throughout their struggle to escape, these two kids has to face their fears. Luckily their mom finds out came to rescue just in time.
I highly recommend this movie. It is one of best work by M. Night. I give 5 out of 5 stars.
