Truth or Dare Review (2018)

Truth or Dare is surprisingly entertaining movie.

The Story

A group of friends went to Mexico for vacation.  Last night of the vacation, they found themselves in old abandoned church.  They decided to play harmless game of truth or dare.  This harmless game of Truth or Dare follow them home and turns deadly as they trying to figure out how to stop this cursed game.

The Review (Spoiler Free)

I didn’t have much expectation of this movie, but I was surprised how entertaining this movie was.  Basically, Truth or Dare is Final Destination meets It Follows.  Truth or Dare isn’t completely original, but combining different concepts from other movies, it stands out from the rest.  Truth or Dare deals with powerful supernatural forces that slowly killing these group of friends just like Final Destination and It Follows.  Just like It Follows, it has its own rules that this supernatural force follows.

I was surprised that the movie didn’t have much gore and blood like Final Destination.  But it has enough suspense and violence to get you entertained.

Truth or Dare is not perfect movie.  It has its own plot-holes in the story.  But if you just sit back and go with the movie, you’ll have lots of fun.  It is one of those mindless entertainment that you can turn your brain OFF and just enjoy.

I’ve heard complaints about the script and acting, but as for me, I have no complaints.  The movie is not a masterpiece, but I found the script, acting to be solid from all the young attractive actors.

The best part of the movie is ending.  The ending is very clever and unpredictable.  Basically, the characters are put themselves in a moral dilemma — sacrifice themselves to save others, or just save themselves. The movie didn’t just end like typical Hollywood cliche ending.  I was actually surprised how they end the movie and it is very satisfying.

In the Nutshell

If you like Final Destination and It Follows, you’ll enjoy this mindless supernatural thriller. [4 out of 5 stars]
